Peppermint is known as the cool, uplifting and vitalizing variant, where spearmint has a more relaxing, warming effect. Both can be used for the following purposes, and the choice of which to use is based on personal preference and taste unless noted otherwise. Our oils are pure and therefore strong. They can be diluted with your liquid of choice, but works well with olive oil, a neutral carrier oil and water.
Here are some suggestions on how you can use the oils:
Acne
Apply directly on spots as needed. Due to the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of the oil, using the oil helps clean out pores and prevent infections.
Airway infection & diseases
Add peppermint oil to (room) vaporizers, rub small amount under the nose. The menthol in the oil helps open up the airways.
Athlete’s foot/nail infection
Due to the anti fungal properties of the oil, people have used it to fight these annoyances. Apply on affected areas.
Arthritis
Apply and massage on sore joints. The oils are known to increase blood circulation, decrease pain and increase range of motion.
Breath freshener
Add one drop (you can always add more) of peppermint to a glass of water, or directly on the tongue. Note: the oil is strong and undiluted, so be ready for an arctic blast and clear sinuses!
Not for the faint of heart!
Cleaning and household uses
Since the oils have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, why not add it to your cleaning regime!
Pet and child friendly, and pleasant for the nose. Add to cleaning solution, dish and laundry detergent, use on hard surfaces around the house, drop some oil in the vents and air ducts to help prevent the build-up of fungi, and add to your toothbrush or toothpaste (one drop!).
Canker and cold sores
Thanks to the antiviral properties of the oils, customers told us this really helps them. Dab the oil directly on as soon as the first symptoms occur and repeat as needed.
Drowsiness/loss of focus and concentration
Attention students! Put a drop of peppermint oil on tongue as needed, inhale from bottle or diffuser, apply lightly under the nose and massage on the back of the neck. Teachers in Japan have known this for years and use peppermint oil in their class rooms, which has proven to increase the students’ performances. Also helpful for night-time driving!
Ear infection
Apply the oil with an applicator (fingertip or cotton swab) inside the ear. Do not drop the oil directly into the ear canal. It’s a little too strong for that.
Fever
Apply the oil across the forehead, behind the ears and in the neck. Then, sleep it off!
Flavoring
Add a drop to a tea bag, and use in baked goods. Best way to diffuse the oil is by saturating a teaspoon of sugar with the oil.
Hair and skin care
Add a few drops to your shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotions. Not only will you feel and smell clean, it also helps clear out pores.
(Head)aches and migraines
The number 1 use of our oils! Apply directly on the temples, across the forehead, on the scalp and/or locally for pain relief. Many customers swear by it.
(Insect)bites, wounds
Apply on injury or bite for pain relief, anti-swelling, anti- itching and to promote healing.
Itching
Add to bathwater by saturating a teaspoon of (sea or table) salt, add to massage or olive oil, or apply directly on skin.
Nausea, upset stomach/IBS
Apply a small amount of peppermint underneath nose, ingest with water or add to a tea(bag).
Pest control (ants, bees, mice, spiders and wasps)
Yikes! Mice and other critters really do not like the smell of peppermint!! Soak cotton ball(s) with the oil and place in problem area to discourage critters. For bees and wasps: spray with mint oil and
water. Ratio: 0.2 oz:10 oz.
Sinus congestion/snoring
Apply a small amount of peppermint oil under the nose, across forehead and the chest. Add a drop or two to a glass of water before bedtime. For children: apply a few drops on a wash cloth and put in pillowcase at night.
Soreness
Apply and massage on painful areas (can be diluted with carrier oil).
Sore throat/infection
Apply oil to the back of the tongue, gargle and ingest with water or tea.
Stress
Add spearmint oil to massage oil, bathwater, shower floor (careful, slippery!) or simply enjoy the scent, straight from the bottle!
Toothache
Apply oil on painful area, both in and outside the mouth, use cotton ball with oil and place on the affected area.
